The Telegraph has published an absolutely fantastic article dissecting weather data, which explores why the heatwave of 1976 had such a strong impact culturally and socially in the UK – but also why heatwaves today are far more frequent and serious than they were in the 1970s.

English rail company South Eastern Railway is trialling a new kind of passive cooling technology in some of its signalling equipment. The tech, called IsoMat, which is a kind of highly efficient heat exchanger, was previously discussed in this newsletter. Signalling cabinets can reach temperatures of 70C during summer heatwaves but the IsoMat solution is able to lower temperatures inside such equipment by 20%, says Railtech.com.
