Gas boilers might leak much more methane than generally assumed, suggests an interesting new report from the UK’s National Physical Laboratory. I should caution that the research was conducted under lab conditions and included a very small sample of just five gas boilers. Still, it’s a useful prompt that more work is urgently needed to quantify how much of this potent greenhouse gas is really seeping out of domestic gas boilers.
