Heating and cooling

New heat pump models arrive on the market every week, it seems, but occasionally one catches my eye. This new high capacity heat pump from Japanese firm Daikin can supply between 0.4 to 1.9 megawatts of cooling or heating power, depending on configuration. It offers hot water temperatures up to 90C and uses a relatively low impact refrigerant, R-1234ze, with a global warming potential of just 1.4. Such a heat pump could be used for district heating or industrial applications.

The Irish Times has a really interesting feature about hemp – and how Ireland could produce large quantities of the material, as well as using it far more widely in construction.
